INVADER 2

VALENTINES SPECIAL

SOFIA - BULGARIA

- 10th FEBRUARY 2006

If you read my review about last years Invader Party in Bulgaria you will know how much I loved it & was especially blown away by the people. You really have to see it to believe it…

Bulgarian party people really are the best in the world. They dance with this unbelievable energy! Exciting mad crazy energy! I couldn’t wait to go back & play there so when Danny asked me over Christmas I was really happy!

YES! “I’m going back to Bulgaria!!” Couldn’t wait!

Luke Slater was headlining which was really cool as I’d never seen him play before, but I was also playing with my London techno buddies Thermobee (www.kinetec.co.uk) and Claire Voyant & Finne who run the very cool London Party, Torque (check it out if you can! www.torquelondon.com ). Also London Dj Suzie Q, who was playing Drum’n’Bass in the 2 nd room.

We flew to Bulgaria the day before so we could chill out for one day which was really nice as last time I was just there for a few hours. This time there was snow everywhere & it was pretty chilly but I had my super warm jacket that I bought for Poland so I was prepared. We stayed at this really great hotel, it looked like a ski resort & was near the mountains. It was so pretty with the white power snow everywhere & water fountains that had frozen!!

The best bit was the hotel had just built a new spa, so it had this beautiful indoor pool, sauna, steam & relaxation rooms! So for the first time in years I actually got to chill out properly!! It was so nice!

On the day of the party we went to check out the venue when the Invader boys Danny, Vladys & Martin were setting up with their huge support team. We got to see how much work went into it. The main room was like a huge sports hall with seating either side, 2 huge lighting rigs & 2 huge screens for visuals were hanging from the ceiling, a special covering was being put on the floor & then the sound, bars & vip area were being set up! I had a great feeling that this party would really rock! The venue was perfect!

It was definetly techno time in Bulgaria!! Yeah!

Unfortunately British Airways messed up, Luke Slater & his manager had to get a later flight to Bulgaria, therefore missed a TV show interview which would have been a huge advertisement for the party, but hey… that’s life.

When I got to the party at 11pm, the dancefloor was slowly filling up. Vlady’s was doing a really nice house & minimal techno warm up. There was a fantastic buzz of excitement in the air! By 12.30 the dancefloor was full with 1,200 crazy Bulgarians! I was up next & determined to get this party rocking, which was pretty easy to be honest. Such a great crowd & they were there to dance like crazy & have as much fun as possible. I had a blast & recognised lots of faces in the crowd from last years party! Cool!

They really went mad for any bootleg tunes & remixes, I kept it as funky & as fun as possible. I really really enjoyed my set! I was jumping up & down, shouting, having fun with the people…like it should be!

Next up was Mr. Luke Slater, he started very mellow & then kept building & building his last hour was awesome! Lots of cool loopy techno, high energy, wicked tunes. The crowd went nuts! He seemed really happy after! He seemed like a nice guy & was happy to get his photos taken & sign autographs which is always nice.

Thermobee really rocked the place too, taking it a bit tougher but still with a lot of funk in it. Like last time I sat up in the seating at the side of the dancefloor, watching the people dance…. Wow, it looked like a full on high energy aerobics class with 1,200 people jumping around the place… letting the music take over & dance like crazy! FANTASTIC!!

Suzie Q did a great set in the second room, very cool drum’n’bass & was have a good boogie herself behind the decks, but I wouldn’t blame her to keep moving as it was bloody freezing in there… felt like –10 degrees!! Yikes!

Bo Betz, who is the best LIVE Techno set in Bulgaria played after Thermobee, I really liked his beats & had me on the dancefloor. Very very good! He played lots of diff sounds and was a very nice guy! After that was Claire Voyant & Finne finshed off. Claire did a great job playing some really great funky techno tunes & was really enjoying herself with the crowd. Unfortuntely Finne’s set was cut short as the police had got noise complaints from the neighbours but he did a wicked job & finshed on the best tune … “Born Slippy” a hard techno remix, just perfect for that time & the crowd when bezerk!!! So great!

People had tears in their eyes the end, they didn’t want it to stop! I talked to loads of people in the crowd & I couldn’t believe that some people had travelled 7-8 hours on a train to come to the party, others, 4 hours on a bus! Unbelievable! They told me that they have to wait between 1-3 months for a good techno party so they really enjoy when it happens.

Like I said last year… It’s a Dj’s Dream to play to these people!

I LOVE BULGARIA!!!

I really really can’t wait to return again.

The Invader Boys…Danny, Vladys & Martin did such a fantastic job, their parties just keep getting better & better!

So don’t miss out on the next one if you’re in Bulgaria or can find a cheap flight there, it’s well worth the visit!!

See you next time!! Xx
