After Curitiba I went to Foz do Iguacu with Dj Fernanda Martins, where I saw one of the biggest & most beautiful waterfalls in the world!! I also got to meet Fernanda’s parents & sister, they were really lovely people. That night we played at the “Tropical Luau” outdoor party held at a water park, there was 1 outdoor stage for bands & then a tent for electronic music. The first Dj’s played house, then me & Fernanda played B2B 3 hours of Techno, (which I really enjoyed) then the Djs after us played Psy Trance. Fernanda Martins is definetly one talented young lady to watch out for. She´s only been Djing 1 year & she rocks!

Unfortunately there was another problem after this party, the promoter didn’t pay me plus when I got to the airport my flight hadn’t been booked (as promised by the promoter in Curitiba!) So I didn’t get paid plus had to buy my own plane ticket back to SP (which was really expensive) plus wait 5 hours at the airport for the flight! … What a mess… This was a BIG lesson for me.

Anyway got back to SP & celebrated Franky’s birthday with him, then travelled to Rio for 2 days. What a beautiful city! There is sadly a huge difference between the rich & the poor people in Brazil. There are lots of street kids and a lot of slums or Favela’s where people live in tiny houses all stacked one on top of each other. I was curious to learn more so on my second day of Rio I went on a tour of Rocinha Favela which is Rio’s largest Favela with 127,000 people living there! It’s mainly built into the mountains & people who live here have the best view of Rio, really beautiful. On the way up to the favela there is a really rich area, big huge beautiful rich houses & then you turn a corner & your in the Favela. Such a contrast. The tour guide was excellent & explained how they are their own community, the police don’t rule here, the druglords do. Very very interesting! The tour I went on supports a local favela school which we visited. Everyone in Brazil is really good looking, but especially the kids. SO beautiful!

The next day I went sightseeing & went up the sugar loaf & visited the Christ, which I’ve always wanted to see.

After 2 days I left Rio & travelled down the coast to a town called “Ubatuba” what a cool name, I just had to visit here. It’s a small surfer town and was really beautiful. Everyone here is really chilled & everyone cycles a bike! You know those big cool kinda old fashioned bikes, just like Amsterdam but beside the beach! I loved it here, but after 1 day I had to head back to SP.

My last gig was playing at the Sieben Club in Vinhedo, outside SP. This is a really nice but new club, so they’re still building up their crowd. Dj Anali who’s family run the club played first & again she’s only 21 but has been playing since she was 14!!! She was great! Another name to look out for! The party was nice, I enjoyed playing but again not many people unfortunately. My London Techno Dj Friend Briza who moved back to Brazil last year came to see me with his mate Ivan, so, it was really great to see them! Thanks for coming guys!

So that was my 3 weeks in Brazil. Djing wise I had a lot of problems with promoters over there (well actually 3 promoters, the rest were ok). It’s really sad when people promise you something & then don’t follow through, so it was a big learning experience for me. There are dodgy promoters all over the world and Djs get ripped off all the time. ...SO UNFAIR! ... all you can do is learn from it!

Travelling wise Brazil is HUGE! & is very beautiful! I met some really really great people & made lots of new friends. Big thank you to Fernando, Alessandra, Fernanda, Renata & Anali for being so nice. And especially to Fabio & Franky, the EVOXX boys for making a dream of mine come true & bringing me to Dj in Brazil. Ye looked after me so well! Miss you guys!

OBRIGADA BRASIL!
