DJ CLODAGH’S EUROPEAN WEEKEND

CZECH REP / SLOVAKIA / LONDON

24th – 26th NOVEMBER 2006

Three gigs in Three days in Three different countries! Cool! I couldn’t wait especially as I was playing 2 new countries for the first time – Czech Republic & Slovakia!

I was really happy when Zygy from MOSP Czech Dj Agency invited me to play these 2 gigs, we had a few problems with gigs being cancelled & flights but in the end it was all worth it.

I left Ireland & flew over to London on Thursday 23 rd, then on Friday I flew from London to Brno in Czech Republic. Funnily I met 2 other Djs from London Dasha & Jef who were playing in a different party in Brno, so we had a laugh on the plane talking music & parties.

I was met at the airport by Zygy & Boyda & we drove 1 hour to the city of Zdar Nad Sazavou, which was Zygy’s hometown & where my hotel was. I had a quick sleep then got picked up by our “professional driver” Boyda & Zygy’s lovely girlfriend Iva & driven 1 hour to the city of Velke Mezirici where the Excalibur Club was.

Club Excalibur is a really nice little club, only opened 1 year ago, really nice decoration and lighting, lots of seating, gogo dancers & best of all wicked sound! It was early & people were on the dancefloor so that’s always a good sign. There was a really nice vibe in the club & with good sound I felt, ya, this is gonna be a nice party! Dj Axiom did a really nice house warm up & then Slovakian Dj Schimek played a really great set of all different styles of techno. Next up was German Techno Dude “Christian Fischer” I was delighted to get to play alongside Christian as I am a big fan of his productions, really good energy techno. Christian was a really nice guy & he played an awesome set using tracktor with his Allen & Heath mixer as a controller. I really enjoyed his set & had a really nice time chatting with people & of course laughing, I don’t think Iva understood any of my jokes, but hey…

Next up was Me! I really enjoyed every minute of my set, the people were really great & very responsive & basically we all had lots of fun. I kept it funky but still pumping and I was dancing and sweating as usual. Next up was Zygy, who played another great set, bringing it from funky techno down to funky house to end the night. A really great end to a great party!

Next day I had a lovely meal cooked by Iva at Zygy’s house then we all set off to Slovakia with our Professional Driver Boyda behind the wheel. We got to Club Pulso in Nitra nice and early. Dj Petit was doing a nice warm up set, Then Zygy was up next. It was a bit weird that not many people were dancing as Zygy was playing a really good set, so I asked one of the other Djs “why aren’t people dancing?” and he said “because everyone is waiting for you!”

I was like what?? Ok so it was my turn next & sure enough everyone got up & danced! I was told that people in Slovakia like their techno HAAARD, so I played a much tougher set than in Czech. I had a great time again playing, the set up was good & the sound was good the people were dancing & smiling & I was happy! Next up was Slovakia’s Dj Breeth who helped organise this party for me. He’s a really nice guy & played a great set. Then lastly, Slovakia’s Superfly Djs were up last & played another great full on pumping techno set.

We were all really tired by this stage & then it was time to head for the airport in Bratislava so I could catch my flight at 10am back to London.

I said my goodbyes to Zygy, Iva & Boyda, really really nice people & felt like we had been friends for years because we had spent 2 days laughing! Really good fun! it was really important that I slept on the plane as I had another gig in London at 8pm but I was sitting beside the most annoying English Football Geezer in the world who was so hyper & drunk… I just wanted to plant him one… So I just tried to ignore him and pretended to be asleep… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

When I got to my sisters flat in London I was totally brain dead from lack of sleep, so I had a shower & crashed out for 2 hours then got up & headed to my final gig of the weekend, Ultraplay @ Café 1001 in Brick Lane. I was really excited to play here as Darren C the promoter told me the crowd are very clued up with their music & they love underground beats…. Electronic, minimal, techy the weirder the better! Yahooooooooo! I had been looking forward to this gig for well over a month & ya it didn’t disappoint! It was also great to see loads of my close friends again! Thanks guys for coming! Anyway Darren C was playing some really nice electronic beats when I got there, next up was me! I started slow but strong electronic stuff, then kept building it to more upbeat minimal techy stuff but still deep & melodic & acidy. The crowd were really awesome, really open minded & a pleasure to play to. It’s been a long time since I played to this kind of crowd at the London party. Yep London Rocks again, well the Ultraplay Crowd Rocks Big Time!

Darren C & Jackie Misfit finished the night with a blinding pumping B2B set, really great & the crowd stayed right till the end. It was really Great!

SO that was my crazy weekend, Three Gigs In Three Days In Three Different Countries… hardly any sleep, lots of travelling and now I have a bad cold… blaaaaah, …ah well it was def worth it!

Thanks Zygy in Czech Rep, Thanks Dj Breeth In Slovakia & Thanks Darren from Ultraplay…. YOU ROCK! Xxxx Luv Clodagh xxxX
