CLODAGH'S BIG ADVENTURE IN POLAND

20th & 21st JANUARY 2006

Another Adventure In Poland…

The funniest things happen to me when I’m travelling, just wait till I tell you about last weekend… Poland.

I got to Stansted Airport Friday night about 5pm only to see that my flight to Szczecin had a big “CANCELLED” sign beside it! Szczecin Airport was shut due to the freezing snowy weather conditions! Oh no! So I had to queue up & change my flight… what should I do? I really didn’t want to miss this gig so luckily I overheard the guy infront of me change his flight to Berlin, so I quickly rang one of the promoters in Poland & he said Berlin wasn’t too far from Szczecin & that someone would come pick me up! Yeah!

While waiting on standby to see if I could get on the Berlin flight I got chatting to the polish guy that was also flying to Berlin & I told him maybe he could get a lift to Szczecin with me. So we had a laugh on the plane chatting about the stress we just had etc, arrived in Berlin only to be called by the promoter that there was a problem, the person who was to pick us up, his car wouldn’t start & I should try & get a lift from the airport with someone else as the roads were pretty bad!

Luckily my new polish friend “Pawel” from the plane met these other Polish dudes who could give us a lift to Szczecin! Yeah! So there I was in Germany in a van with 4 polish guys who I didn’t know, driving towards the Polish border at 11pm in blizzard! God the situations I get myself into… anyway I never saw snow like it, luckily the polish driver was a real pro & ploughed through the snow & 3 hours later I arrived safe & sound in Szczecin.

I then got a taxi to the party with this huge heavy metaler Polish taxi driver. When we got to the party address we got out of the taxi but the place looked deserted. We could hear the techno beats but couldn’t find the entrance to the club!! The snow was falling hard and my hair was getting bigger & bigger (it does that when it gets wet), so we drove the taxi around again & finally saw some people!! Yeah!

Inside the party was in full swing… Chris the promoter came over & said “your on in 15mins!” I was like…. Ahhhhh! I need a redbull, so at 2.30am I started playing & straight away the crowd were into it. I played a real fun, high-energy techno set. I really love playing in Poland, one of my favourite places because of the people; they have this raw energy, feel the music & dance like crazy!! I loved playing here, the set up was great & the sound was top & the people were there to PARTY!! Wicked!

Afterwards people were so friendly coming up chatting & they had all heard about my big adventure & felt bad for me but I was grand! Dj Nyx played a really driving techno set after me, her mixing was so tight & then Dj Wotji played a really great high-energy fast techno set after her. Both wicked & had me dancing the fastest I’d danced in ages.

In between these sets I discovered a small 2 nd room, the “Blue Room” where the djs were playing really excellent minimal techno beats, really great stuff! This was the first time the promoters Chris & Mark & Droptech held a party at the club “Crossed” since they bought it, it’s really a great club, perfect for a techno party. It had this crazy art on the walls, which this polish guy did in 2 days & when you see the size of the walls you won’t believe it only took him 2 days!!! There were also these great guys from “www.clockwork.prv.pl” doing really cool visuals, it was mad seeing myself on a big screen while I was Djing… funny!

Chris Liberator & Dj Rush will both play at Crossed over the next few months… now that I’d like to see. Anyway big thumbs up from me for the Droptech crew, top party with top people & great to meet Agnes again who had seen me play at a party in London last year!

Hopefully see you again soon! (www.neuroshocked.pl)

Right after a quick sleep, me, Dj Nyx & Dj Wotji started our 5 hour train ride to Wroclaw! We had a right laugh on the train plus Wotji got fined 50 slotties for drinking a bottle of beer… oh dear! Anyway the scenery was beautiful… snow everywhere… white everywhere, so peaceful!

Finally arrived in Wroclaw & went to Jakub’s flat, Jakub Rene Kosik does the best live techno set in Poland so I couldn’t wait to hear him later at the party! Jakub & Joanne were really kind hosts & looked after me so well. They had this gorgeous great Dane called “Funky” which was the size of a pony who stole 3 of my socks out of my bag while I was sleeping!! So he was

“Funky The Sock Monster” after that! Poor Joanne was so embarrassed but I was just laughing because I had been searching for ages for them while the dog had been eating them all along!!

Anyways it was FREEEEZING outside so I was glad when we got to club Intro, a really cool underground basement club with 2 small techno arches with a spot on sound system… a perfect techno pit!

Norf one of the “This is Uk Style” promoter was playing some really tough techno beats & I was next. Jakub was telling me that the crowd here prefer it tough so I was like OK! I was nervous before I played but as soon as I got on the decks the crowd gave a big cheer & then I knew this was gonna be loads of fun! Yeah!

The crowd here definitely like it pumping… tough full-on powerful techno beats were on the menu & the crowd loved it. I had a blast & was sweating loads as usual! Eat your heart out Carl Cox! Hehe!

Lately I’ve been searching for some new techno sounds and came across some new wicked acid techno remixes which made me pull out some old acid techno classics too, they went down so well, I had forgotten how wicked this music is, full on high energy acid techno madness! Yeah!

Afterwards Norf was saying that he was really surprised, he thought I’d start off soft & keep building it up with lots of “polite” mixing!!!???

Well of course I just let it rip! Hehe! …Full on Clodagh power!

The crowd here were fantastic as you will see from the photos, hands in the air, screaming… WICKED!

All the Dj’s played great & Jakub’s live set was top class & had me back on the dancefloor. Big thank you to Athar and Norf for inviting me to play here & organising the gig in Szczenin for me too. Dziekuje Dudes! (www.acid.pl)

Like I said I LOVE playing in Poland, always a pleasure!

When I left the club I got a big shock as it was –16.6 degrees! There were even icicles hanging from the cars! Brrrrrrrr….

Going home was of course another big adventure, next day no flights were leaving Wroclaw Airport so I had to take a 3.5hour bus ride to Poznan Airport, one of the buses even broke down because the petrol froze!

I finally got back to London at midnight!

Lots of my friends were complaining how cold it is here in London & I was like, this isn’t cold, you should go to Poland, I think it’s now –26 degrees!!! Aaaahhh!

Dziekuje Polska!!!

Hope to see you all again sooooooon… when it’s warmer!

Byeeeeeeee!! xx
