INVADER PARTY

SOFIA - BULGARIA 11th JUNE 2005

(Check out the photos)

I was very curious & excited about playing in Bulgaria plus it was my first time playing overseas with the Top London Underground Techno Legends

Chris Liberator (Stay Up Forever) & DAVE the Drummer (Hydraulix Records) along with Dj Ant & my “Vinyl Vixen” buddy Rackitt! Any Dj’s I knew who had played before in Bulgaria had all good reports saying the people are wicked & they definitely weren’t wrong…

After a very long flight from London via Austria me & Henry (aka DAVE the Drummer) finally landed in Sofia at 11.45pm. We were picked up at the airport & brought straight to the club, which wasn’t a club really, but a massive sports hall. The place looked really great it was 11.15pm, there was a huge queue outside & the people who were inside were already on the dance floor grooving to local Dj & promoter Vladislav Rashkov’s very cool house music. The vibe in the place was full of excitement & I knew straight away that this party was going to rock BIG time!

My set was 11.30pm-1.00am so when I got to the club I had 15mins to have a look around the club, find the toilet, say hi to Chris Lib, Carmel (Chris’s wife), Ant, Rackitt & Dj Graham Lloyd from Subbass Dj’s who I hadn’t seen for ages! They had all come out the day before.

The next thing… I was standing infront of 2,000 people who were ready & waiting to dance their socks off! So I got straight into my funky techno set & man I’ve never seen people dance like this before & react so well to the music. It was Saturday night & these people were out to PARTY!! It was as if someone had told them “Right this is your last night to dance!” …Arms & legs going in every direction, hands in the air, people non-stop jumping & shouting! I really have never experienced people with such energy before & I’ll never forget it. I had so much fun! I really really enjoyed my set, played a few funky bootlegs, which went down really well, it was wicked!!! YEAH!

Next up was Dj Ant from Powertools Recs, who took the pace up and played a wicked tougher techno set. With the crowd getting crazier & crazier it was Chris Liberators turn to blast them with his unstoppable high energy Acid Techno sound! The crowd went mad, there was no sign of the energy level dropping & wanting more, they were really spoiled as DAVE the Drummer played next, 1 hour LIVE then 1hour pumping full on Techno Dj set!!! Again the crowd were going nuts non-stop!

The promoter Daniel was telling me that Carl Cox had played this same venue last year and there had been 7,000 people here, I remember Carl saying that Bulgaria was one of his favourite gigs of last year & now I know why… the people are so totally wicked! This was the first time that promoter Daniel had put on a party in Bulgaria so it was a big risk but it definitely paid off & people who I talked to in the crowd said that this was the most powerful party in Bulgaria since Carl Cox, so well done Daniel, everything was really top class, the sound, the visuals (which were really excellent!!) & the venue was very cool!

Rachel Rackitt was the last of our London Dj’s to get up & rock the place with her pumping old skool acid techno set. The crowd were still going for it & as it was 8am the sun was coming through the windows like huge lasers, which looked really cool.

Throughout the night I got tired so I sat up high looking down on the crowd as I love to watch people dance & again I know I keep saying this but man do Bulgarian’s like to dance and I mean full on dancing, let the music take over & dance till you drop! Playing in Bulgaria is a Dj’s dream; I just wish every country was like this!

The London Underground Techno sound Rocked Bulgaria big time so if you live in Bulgaria or close by, watch out for the next big “INVADER” party in Sofia (www.invader-bg.com) because you’re gonna have the time of your life, because I definitely did!!

Thank you very much Bulgaria!! See you next time!
