POLISH INTERVIEW with DJ CLODAGH

by ATHAR – JANUARY 2006

1. When and where you started your adventure with music industry? Any memories from gig, party or experience with one changed "your world"?

I always loved to dance but got bored with the discos & chart music that was played in Ireland, so when I moved to London in 1999 & my sisters took me out to trance & techno parties I was like “YAHOO!!” it was amazing, people dancing all night long to this amazing music, I was hooked!! I lived for the weekends, going out dancing every Friday, Saturday & Sunday!!! Moving to London definitely changed my world forever for the better! I was so happy!! I started Djing in 2001 & the rest is history!

2. Who has the biggest influence for your music passion? Any one person or maybe more people?

My ex boyfriend Nacho, even though he didn’t teach me to mix he did push me to buy the equipment & start making parties for our friends. Jeff Amadeus blew me away when I saw him mixing, all his tricks & 3 decks mixing. I learned so much from watching him play. & of course Carl Cox, well he’s my hero, I saw him play a big festival in the UK 2 years ago & I was like a child jumping up & down for 3 hours! He’s amazing… his energy & passion for music is unstoppable!! Also the fact that he believed in me & brought me on tour with him last year as his warm up Dj, gave me a huge boost! He’s a great person!

3. We know that your music horizons are very wide and we would like to know what is your favoruite music except techno to listen and spin ? >> (I mean trance, house, electro etc.)

When I started Djing I used to play Hard Trance, then I started playing Techno & then Tribal & Funky House & Electronic House!! I mainly now play Techno & Electronic House. But I also like Drum’n’Bass, BreakBeat & this very interesting Minimal sound from Germany. Anything with a lot of energy & emotion, If it makes me move, I like it!

4. So what kind of techno music style you like the best at this moment, any names ? labels ? artists ? >> (I mean playing on the gigs)

I have always loved powerful & strong Techno music! Stuff that makes people dance like crazy, hands in the air, people screaming, that’s what I want to achieve everytime I play, so I play stuff that makes me want to dance like crazy! I play bits of everything, from Tribal to Acid, Hard to Soft, Bootlegs etc. But always strong & powerful with lots of energy! I love Headline, Hydraulix, Stay UP Forever, MB Electronics, Drumcode, Intec, Rotation, Spilo, Zenit etc.

5. And to listening privately in home or in traveling time ? >> (I mean music from all genre.. from Michael Jackson to U2, from Chopin to Jean Michele Jarre etc.)

I mainly listen to dance music at home, but I’ve always loved rock too, I was a big Nirvana fan, REM, Smashing Pumpkins, I love Evanscence, the Killers and of course U2! Your fav producer ? There are lots of great producers out there. I have huge respect for anyone who spends so much time in the studio creating a track for other people to enjoy. I’ve only started learning & it’s very hard. I have huge respect for DAVE The Drummer, Chris Liberator, Valentino Kanzyani, Marco Bailey, Hardcell & Grindvik, Stephane Signore, En-joy, Cave etc. They all consistently produce wicked techno tracks!

6. Best EP ? Sorry can’t decide!

7. The best gig ever ?

There are so many great gigs to choose from, Playing at my own Spiritualised parties for my friends, playing with Carl Cox & Sasha in France, Playing London techno parties, & playing in Bulgaria & Poland last year were all amazing because of the energy from the people! Really special!

8. Any plans for the future ? Producing ?

Lots of dreams & plans for the future, I want to be the best DJ, Producer, Live Act that I can possibly be, playing all over the world & setting as many dance floors on fire as possible!! Basically I want the people who are at the party to feel what I am feeling, let the powerful music take over, dance like crazy, forget all their problems, be really happy and have the best night out ever!

9. Ok and last question, would you add something or tell some words to polish heads?

Get ready for some serious dancing on 20 th & 21 st Poland!!! I can’t wait to play Droptech’s Birthday Party on Fri 21 st Jan @ Crossed, Szczecin, and on Sat 21 st I’m playing This is UK Style @ Intro, Wroclaw ! I’ve heard that everyone is techno crazy here! I’ve also heard it’s very cold over there but don’t worry I’ve got some serious high energy techno for ye to dance to!!

Thanks so much for inviting me back, I really can’t wait!

See you soon Poland!! xx
