GoGuide Bulgarian Interview Nov 2009

  1. HI Dj Clodagh... What did you keep from the time you were a fitness instructor and body worker? Did „sport discipline“ help you to move forward?

Hi there. I love exercise, sport and dancing. I was a fitness Instructor for 11 years & played competitive sport eg. Basketball & Football for many years. I think it’s very important when I was growing up as I was part of a sports team and I used to practise for hours and hours trying to improve my skills. It was the same when I started Djing, I practised for hours & hours trying to be the best I could be. Yes sport made me very disciplined. I still love exercise, I cycle 2 hours nearly every day, it makes me feel great, it’s important to look after your health!

1. You are sharing your experience with everyone who goes to your website. Why do you do this and do you feel better to share?

Basically I just enjoy sharing my experiences on my website, it’s also a fun way for me to keep a record of all the places I’ve played over the years. Maybe I can write something like Dj advice or Tips that can hopefully help young Up & Coming Djs. Or I can write about brilliant parties I’ve played at and help spread the word about great promoters & crowds. It’s also a good way to help promote music, new tracks, new Djs and great producers. I list my Top 10 favourite tracks most months & maybe some other people will also buy these tracks etc. I’m getting a new website designed which is very nearly finished so watch out for a new look... www.djclodagh.com

  1. A lot of people say that there is some magic in Africa as a continent. Do you think so and what is your experience from there?

I love to travel and I went to Africa on holiday this September for the first time. I found it fascinating! I climbed mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania and then went to the paradise island on Zanzibar for 10 days afterwards. Such a different culture, I loved the poeple the language plus it’s very beautiful. I definitely want to go back and travel soem more.

  1. What was the biggest stage that you played on, how did you feel and what did you learn there?

I think the biggest party I played at was either the Apokalypsa party in Czech Republic when I played to 5,000 people or at the “Carl Cox and Friends” parties in Paris & Strasbourg. It was nerve wracking and amazing all at the same time. It’s an incredible feeling to have 5,000 people scream at you dancing like crazy…

  1. How did you meet Carl Cox and what is the feeling to be his favorite dj?

Carl Cox saw me on a TV show in the UK about “Up & Coming Djs”. I emailed him looking for advice & telling him I’d love to warm up for him one day. I went to one of his London gigs & gave him some demos and a few months later I was on tour with him in France. It was a dream come true!

  1. What is your position about vinyl? I know that in London it is very easy to find it, do you think that this media is still available or digital technology is the future ones?

Sadly vinyl is disappearing. It’s very expensive for record labels to produce now, there aren’t many record pressing plants left & not many record shops left either. Everything is gone digital now, it’s a lot easier and cheaper for producers to release music & a lot easier and cheaper for Djs to buy music online. I still play a small bit of vinyl butmainly CD’s and eventually I’ll move to Traktor.

  1. What was the most important advice that Carl Cox told you in the beginning?

To enjoy myself when Djing because when the Dj enjoys themselves the crowd will enjoy it too.

  1. Is there any extreme place you play? Some kind of extreme environment around you?

Traveling to Poland and Bulgaria in winter is Extreme!! Soooooo Cold! J

  1. What can we expect from you when you gig in Varna? Is this your first coming?

I love playing in Varna, I think I’ve played about 4 times there… the people are lots of fun. I’m going to play my heart out & rock the party as best I can with lots of funky pumping techno!

  1. You are very positive person, is there some situation in your life that you felt happier for something?

Lots of things make me happy. Sunshine, music, traveling, exercise, nature, family… but I get a special happiness when I have a good gig. I feel on top of the world, nothing can beat that feeling. I’m on a high for days after a great gig!

On Saturday 21st Nove Dj Clodagh will play the Renesanz Techno Party @ Mladost Hall, Varna plus on Sunday 22nd November at the Renesanz Afterparty @ Comics Club, Varna, Bulgaria
