SLOVAKIAN INTERVIEW - OCTOBER 2011

Hi Clodagh, how are you?
Hey! I'm really good thank you.

You are known as techno-DJane…what kind of music you used to listen before you got to techno? What style is characterising  you the most at the moment?

I have always loved music but I didn't discover Techno until I moved to London in 1999. Before in Ireland I used to listen to commercial chart music and I used to love Indie & Rock music. I used to go to many concerts, I saw REM, Alanis Morrisette, Radiohead etc. I loved Nirvava, Smashing Pumpkins, U2 etc. Then when I moved to London I used to go to a lot of Trance parties, later on I discovered the underground Techno scene in London and went to a lot of warehouse parties. The Trance and Techno parties were fantastic. My style now is still pumping but I've slowed down my tempo playing maximum 135bpm. I play good tunes so if it's tech house, minimal, breaks, electro or techno I will play it.

- You are better known in Czech Republic than in Slovakia, Clubbers could hear you last year in Leopoldov. How do you feel the Slovak audience? Is it different than in Czech or other countries?

The crowd in Slovakia are wicked just like Czech and Bulgaria! The Slovak clubbers have so much energy, they love to party and love to dance and best of all they love Techno! I'm very very lucky to Dj here. Everytime I've played in Slovakia it's been amazing so I can't wait to come back again.

-You are from Ireland. What do you think about parties in Dublin? Is it different than in London?
I am from Ireland but I've lived in London for 12 years now. My family are still in Ireland and I go home about 4 times a year to visit them. I haven't Dj'd in Ireland for a few years so I cannot comment on the current party scene in Dublin but anytime I have played there it's been crazy. You know the Irish like to party hard! haha! The main difference is in Ireland all the parties must stop at 2am! This is really sad but it's the law.

How was it like to play with such a star like Carl Cox?
Playing with Carl Cox was amazing, he's such an inspiring Dj and a great guy. I think Carl has been DJing over 30 years now... I've nothing but respect for his motivation and energy for the music scene. Plus most importantly he truely plays for the people, he really cares that they are number one... it's just fantastic. I've been very lucky to play alongside so many top Djs. Dave the Drummer, Chris Liberator, Thermobee and Jeff Amadeus from the London underground scene have also been big influences for different reasons... all amazing Djs and friends of mine.

-Do you prefer to play in small clubs or in big parties and festivals?
Honestly I don't mind as long as the people want to party & the sound is good. I am the happiest person in the world when I see people having fun and dancing like crazy, I don't care if there are 5 people infront of me or 5,000! Having said that there is an incredible buzz when you have 5,000 people screaming at you... hehe!

-What are your latest achievements?
I am very very motivated with my music at the moment. Like most Djs I have another job. I work full time for a children's charity in London but I have a wonderful boss and I explained to her about my music and she has let me reduce my hours to focus on my music... this has helped me so much and I am working on something really special at the moment... it will hopefully all come together next year!

I've also had lots of really amazing gigs recently in Czech and London and soon I will play in Bulgaria & of course Slovakia!! I played 2 amazing gigs in Bulgaria last March, On the Friday night I played a 5 hours set in Sofia and then the Saturday night I played a 5 hour set in Varna! both gigs were amazing and 10 hours of Djing in 2 days was a new experience for me... it was fantastic!

-Have you prepared anything special for Techno Up 5 in Ruzomberok?
I will prepare a really special set for Techno Up 5! Expect lots of energy, fun and amazing music!! :)

What message would you like to send to clubbers, who look forward to hear your set in Ruzomberok?
Hey! I cannot wait to come back and play in Slovakia again... the party is going to rock so be prepared for lots of fun and dancing and the best techno music!! See you soon! :)

I hope you’ll enjoy yourself on Techno Up 5. Thank You for the interview. All the best for the future.

Thank you very much, I'm really looking forward to the party! See you soon!

Clodagh x :)
